Your Guide to Landscaping and Property Standards at Harvest
Harvest Grasses Explained
This map highlights the native seed grasses throughout Harvest, an intentional choice that reflects our respect for the natural Colorado landscape and reduces HOA costs. These grasses require minimal maintenance. They are trimmed a few times a year, conserve water, have deeper roots to hold soil. While they may appear a bit wild at times, they play an important role in preserving the environment and maintaining the authentic beauty of the land we call home.
Replacing these native grasses with sod would nearly double HOA fees due to increased water use, fertilizer, and weekly mowing. This natural approach is both cost-effective and aligned with Town of Berthoud requirements for sustainable community landscaping.
Here is the Berthoud’s Municipal code about native grasses. 30-2-112 Landscape Design: This code has specifics regarding native grasses. Native grasses are to be used in the landscape design of a community. Their use is encouraged by the Town in a community's landscape design. There are no restrictions as to where they can be used and there are no height restrictions with one exception. Native grass that borders an intersection is restricted to 24 inches in height such as not to impact line of sight.
The overall codes are much greater in verbiage than I have above, and the Builders and Residents of the Harvest community can find all the details on the Town of Berthoud website.
