Berthoud Historian Mark French Honored at Local Event

Local historian Mark French, a longtime advocate of Berthoud's history, was celebrated at the 2024 Newell Farm Concert. Mayor Will Karspeck honored French for his dedication to preserving the town's heritage. French retired earlier this year after serving 24 years as president of the Berthoud Historical Society. In Appreciation of Mark French
Whereas, Berthoud’s rich history, from its early settlers to its development over the decades, reflects the dedication and curiosity of its residents; and
Whereas, Mark French, a fourth-generation Berthoudite and esteemed historian, has long been committed to uncovering and preserving Berthoud’s history; and,
Whereas, French has achieved this through his role as volunteer, author, historian, and President of the Berthoud Historical Society; and,
Whereas, Through his extensive research, French has meticulously chronicled the origins of Berthoud in hundreds of writings and several books to share the history of the first homesteaders, the relocation of the original settlement, and the early development of the Berthoud area; and,
Whereas, French has raised thousands of dollars for the Berthoud Historical Society Endowment; and,
Whereas, French has preserved numerous buildings, and has advocated for the protection and enhancement of other historic structures in Berthoud; and,
Whereas, French has organized countless historic tours, re-enactments, courtyard concerts drive-ins, fly-ins, and other historical events to engage with the community and share Berthoud’s rich history; and,
Now, Therefore, I William Karspeck, as Mayor of the Town of Berthoud encourage the residents of the Town of Berthoud to show their appreciation to: Mark French
In recognition for his many contributions to preserve our history in Berthoud and his work to commemorate those who founded and built the community we call home.
